Top Attributes To Look For In An Aluminum Trailer Storage Box

If you are constantly hauling a trailer around to do work, having an extra place to carry smaller tools is a major advantage. An aluminum trailer storage box is an easy add-on and provides so much value to the owner. However, not all of these boxes are manufactured with the same features and attributes. Here is a look at some of the best attributes to look for in an aluminum storage box to add to your trailer.

Look for a box that has a good locking system incorporated.

The storage box on your trailer is left out and open where any passerby can access it. Therefore, it is imperative that the box has a really good lock system in place so it will be secure. You can always go with a unit that has a place to add a padlock, but padlocks can be easier to break into than an integrated locking mechanism. Look for a box that has an actual lock built into the opening area and a key.

Make sure the box you choose has multiple compartments inside for storage.

Large wide-open interiors are fine if you are only planning to carry some rather large tools with you while you work. However, it is still nice if you have the option of breaking the box down into compartments for smaller tool storage. Look for a box that has inner compartments or panels that can be inserted to divide the box's interior into smaller spaces for organization purposes.

Find a box that has reinforced door spines.

You will likely be opening and closing the doors on the storage box a great deal. Therefore, the doors themselves need to be made in a quality way so they do not get damaged and the door spines should be aptly reinforced so they don't break down. When shopping for a unit, make sure there is a notation about the reinforcement of the door spines listed in the specs.

Ensure the doors have a gasket around them for moisture protection.

When you place tools inside of the storage box, the last thing that you will want to do is see them get contaminated with moisture if it rains. However, some of the lower quality boxes do not have much in the way of moisture protection. The best-designed trailer storage boxes will have a gasket seal around the doors so no water can get inside.
