Fun Things To Do While Vacationing In Negril Besides Tan On The Beach

While everyone will admit that Negril has some of the most beautiful beaches in Jamaica, there are plenty of things to do while you are on vacation besides laying out and catching some rays. Jamaica has some really awesome natural sights that you should take advantage of while you are down there, including some really cool waterfalls. There are also some fun ways to explore the water besides swimming or renting a paddle boat. Here are some ideas.

Hike Dunn's River Falls

When people say they hike Dunn's River waterfalls, they probably mean they actually hike up the waterfall. While there is a staircase to the side of the waterfall for tourists who don't feel comfortable getting all wet, most tourists actually get into the river and hike up the falls. They are beautiful, but not too steep or treacherous, so they are a pleasant hike. The waterfalls are composed of large, flat sections, with little drops, creating a multi-tiered cascading effect. They  empty out into a lagoon like pool where you can swim around and have fun. The waterfalls are really beautiful, so there are lots of photographers who set up on a nearby viewing stand and do time-lapse photography to take advantage of the abundant water flow.

Cliff Diving

If you like the idea of jumping off a cliff into the ocean, like you've seen in countless music videos and travelogues set to EDM music, then hit the cliffs of Negril. There are many restaurants and cafe's right along the high points and people can walk up to a man made platform that extends out over the cliff and dive into the water. Once in the water, there are stone steps that will help you get back onto shore, where you can climb up again and dive over and over.

Parasailing

A great way to see the ocean and also get a once in a lifetime view of Jamaica is to go out parasailing. You will get onto a boat and slip on a harness. Then the parasail guides will set up the sail so that the wind catches and carries you up into the air. The boat will speed around the open water, creating the wind drift necessary to keep you aloft. When you are coming down, the boat captain will slow down the boat so that you drift safely back down.

Take An Open Water Diving Course

If you have always wanted to learn how to scuba dive and haven't already been certified at a place like the Colorado Scuba Center before your trip, then here's your chance. You can take an open water diving course and get instructions on how to use oxygen tanks, and the proper procedure when using a regulator and buoyancy controls. Your instructor will bring you and the other students out into the ocean and you will get to learn in a safe, yet exciting environment.
